greetings guys, I want ask You (especially You guys from Larian Studios) about something - about only Germany game release. As I went on eBay.de I've found this (don't bother 1st searching result hehe).

http://shop.ebay.de/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=divinity+2&_sacat=See-All-Categories

later I've found this in google. Here's already patch...

http://www.4players.de/4players.php...8/Divinity_2_Ego_Draconis/Patch_101.html

and I'm like WTF. There's no information and equal clue about Germany only release and the rest of world. I've searched UK and USA eBays, there was nothing. So please explain why for God's sake game has been released only in Germany, nor rest of Europe ...

There's already information about release in Poland on early Q4, but what about other countries. Have they wait also so long while people in Germany are already having fun? It's a little bit ridiculous... (same like Two Worlds what honestly confused and embarrased me, is this the same situation?)

The English release is set for September (no exact date or publisher has been announced yet), as is the German XBox version.

ok, thanks for answering part of my question. but... another thing drowns me still, why English release is set on September in addition to Germany's 24th July? it's a whole 1,5 month difference.

Its all to do with the Publisher and the development on-going within Larian.
We all wish the game could of come along with the German release but sadly it didn't.

Also please try refrain your self from making threads about this subject as we already have two on the front page.

PS.Welcome hehe

first of all, there's nothing ridiculous about releasing a PC game in germany first. It's the second largest PC Gaming market in the world. It's also the only country left where PC Games sell better than their console counterparts...

secondly, the release isn't limited to one single country. I live in switzerland and you can officialy get it here aswell. smile
i would have prefered an english release too, but releasing it in germany first doesn't come as much of a suprise.

Hi,

a premier release in Germany stems from Larian history.

Even though a Belgian developer, their first steps with CRPGs were in cooperation with German developer Attic back towards the end of the 90s.

Then with their "coming out", div , it was a German Publisher (CDV) who financed the game in the end and brought it to the shelves.

And now, after short liaison with Ubisoft for beyond , again a German publisher (dtp entertainment) is on the controls.

So it´s legitimate to say that Germany (along with the other major German speeking countries Switzerland and Austria) has become like the actual "home market" for Larian.
It feels natural for them to pitch their new baby there.

And after all, the other foreign language areas can just benefit from it, when the initial bugs get eliminated first and will be missing in the international releases then.

Hence the delay: fixing the bugs & wrapping up the console version (XBOX) = 1,5 months

Which leads me to the thought v1ctor already brought up:
In the other countries, given the diminished standing of PC gaming in front of the consoles, the XBOX will probably rather be their major release.

And that version, due to it´s special conditions, had been announced for a few months after quite early on.

Cheers,
Ragon

honestly i'm relieved that D2 is out, even if the initial release is the German edition. it shows that the game is ready for the market & we, the fans, will enjoy it soon. since there will be XBOX version released, i know that i can recommend D2 to my brother.

@ Raze -> September is a good time as it gives me time to save up for a decent graphics card for D2. smile

Looking at how U.S.-based publishers often treat Germany, I often don't have this impression at all.

Looks like I got it wrong - it's actually the biggest (old) market. I found a nice article concerning the PC Games market in general. You might wanna check it out:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/07/20/develop-09-is-digital-distribution-the-pc-saviour/

Quote: ...The PC market across the years went from 1.262 to 1.265 to 1.326 to 1.125 – which is a fifteen percent decline from its 2006. That’s enormously held up by the German market, which now makes up 41.3% of all PC sales...

Digital distribution has become the best way to sell PC games, since it's so much easier to get the version you want (if you're on broadband), no matter where you live. It also fixes the piracy problem.

Personally I've always prefered the old NA boxes. It was nice to have something for the shelves.

Janggut;
I don't need a new graphics card..... I need a whole new computer.

V1ctor;
I prefer the UK style DVD cases for games. Unless there is a fairly substantial manual, or something, the North American style box is still larger than it needs to be (though nowhere near as bad as before it was standardized). I would try digital distribution for something I could not find in store or online anymore (or something rare and classic enough people on eBay figure it is worth double or triple used than it cost when new).

Just so you know, this game is practically invisible in the UK/Ireland. Usually games show up on Amazon.co.uk or Play.com months in advance of release and are available to preorder. The only reason I even know this game exists is because I post on a forum with a very large, international user base and I luckily happened upon a thread where it was mentioned with Divine Divinity. Basically, word of mouth is the only reason I know this game exists.

Differences in release dates between territories doesn't really concern me provided I know that it will be released eventually. However, it seems as if this is still up in the air with a UK publisher still TBA. What is of some concern is that this game is allegedly getting a September release in the rest of the EU and yet no publisher has been announced yet. The game has not been widely publicized or promoted over here and it doesn't appear in any online or high street retailer's inventory.

I feel that this is something that will hurt the developer more than anyone else. Are the developers aware of how low profile Divinity II is outside of Germany? For a game that I am assured is the best rpg since Morrowind and which looks triple A in every screenshot and trailer I have seen I have to say that this is very puzzling.

From what i could gather, the only international visibility on D2 (outside of germany) is on facebook/tweeter and youtube. When the game is released i'm sure review sites like gamespot, etc will make it somewhat more visible (Especialy if the score is + 85%).

But you are right, outside of that, no one can get much info about the game.

You forget some RPG news and a few other News sites.

RPGWatch has lots of information on it, and I know from a few articles from other sites as well, although ot many.

True, i forgot about that, sorry. RPGwatch is on my favorite bar for a long time now.

On the bottom line, i think a RPG fan will sooner or later find info about D2, while a less RPG "educated" one will probably miss it, or only with luck will "stumble" upon it (on non-german market that is) if the game would be released now in the US for example.

Edit: For example, threads like this one below help also:

Yes, I agree. RPG fans know where to look out for news, but the rather casual-oriented gamer (so to say) might probably miss the game.
