The game does not directly communicate with the sound device. Communication goes over Microsoft DirectSound. But yes, if you disable Sixpack, and enable something else, that should work. If that "something else" has okay drivers... Still, if it works in Windows 7 because Sixpack has no driver, I'd say that's an indication.
