In the forum index list, if a topic contains more than 1 page, the page numbers will be listed under the title, so you can click on the '1' or 'all' rather than the title. There doesn't seem to be an option to change the behaviour when clicking on the title itself...
It may help a little if you increased the number of posts shown per page.
