ROFL! the quest isn't even intended to make you collect hearts...you should read his mind and you will learn that he is BS-ing you, and that he will sell those hearts in aleroth for 10 times the price he gives you....then you can decide to kill the bastard
You actually do whatever he says? This is the beauty of DIVINITY...you're not forced to do what NPC says and there are 2-3 ways of solving a quest...including killing the quest giver...
