It's kind of standard in education there. It is taught in schools, next to French, which is usually the second most-well-known language there. Place 3 would be the Russian language ... - rather in the eastern federal states of Germany.
What i actually don't quite like is the adaption to the English language which goes so far that even technical terms and whart not are NOT translated into the German language ! Speaking English is "cool" nowadays here, and that especially in terms of marketing. You probably won't even fiond a single advertisement poster without an English word on it ! Rather extremely put.
To me, this is no more adaption, but imho rather the beginning of ... subservience.
To me, this is like Germany losing its identity. In terms of language.
In my case, it is so that i love the English language, but the more I like it, the more proud I do become it of the German language as well. That's why I'd like to have fewer technical and otherwise terms to remain in English when they can be very much translated into the German language as well, especially when it can be done with no [too great] loss of meaning.
