Sounds like copy protection kicked in. Either it is pirated, bad dvd, or got multiple dvd drives and need to keep the disk in the primary one, lowest drive letter. Your current saved game might be messed up now.
Every time there I run into trouble on the road, there is always a dwarf at the bottom of it. Don't they know how to drive above ground?
