Larian Studios Forums Divinity 2 - Ego Draconis (English) Help/Tips/Tricks "Williams" won't talk to me and guards won't fight

SPOILER ALERT: This is sort of endgame, so unless you already have the "Sigil" for HoE, don't read on.

Hi! I am currently trying to get the Sigil for the HoE, but I simply couldn't find it. So I went online and read a strategy guide (I feel dirty ) which said I needed to talk to a guy called Williams in Broken Valley after Battle Tower to get a key to a mine to kill a demon etc.. but I remembered I had already been there. That place is bugged for me, and I don't know what to do! I'm pretty sure it means I can't go any further until it's patched or one of you might help me.

To clarify, when I enter the house the guards don't attack me (or talk to me or whatever they do). They just sit there and I can't even target them to talk to them or attack them or whatever. When I go upstairs, I see Williams and 2 other guys. Williams has an exclamation mark over his head, but I can't target him or talk to him. I can talk to the two others, but it doesn't get em anywhere.

it's a bug indeed. This place still buggeв in the game, so I dunno how to help you. Try to enter via different door, try to teleport in Battle Tower and back. There must be a script cutscene right when you enter into the guildmaster tower.

Btw, have you tried to visit William in a first time, in Broken Valley? If so - perhaps you already has a key?

I dont think he has visited william before, if he did that already, william had already been dead, as I dont think he can protect william once leaving before battle tower, since a horde of black ring will auto attack once trying to go down the stairs after the conversation with william.

His case really seems bugged already I guess.

I've tried all of that.


I was in that "area" before battle tower, but I specifically remember not going inside the house (I saved before going inside, got owned, and didn't go inside again after loading).

I can't finish the game.

So I assumed that you been to the mine before in the early days in broken valley and saw the cut scene where the guards blowing out mines, and kill those lower level black ring member outside. Honestly I really didnt encounter the bug myself, so I think you either try using an early save game or via other entrances like kein mentioned. By default, once you climb up the stairs and reach the floor where william is, an auto conversation cut scene will be trigger. You wont need to manually talk to william for the key. IF you really cant get it work, either you had to restart the game or wait for a patch to release to fix the bug.

I saw that cutscene, yes. I can't reload without going back to level 12 or something, and I am level 33 now, sooooo...

Guess I'll just have to wait and clear whatever else there is in the meanwhile.

I was able to. Yeah, that's cost a lot to escape these 2x leveled punks, but I did. And, when I leveled up, I have returned and kicked their asses.

Will lost some exp in this case if william dead, since the quest to save him will be fail. Beside that nothing much to lost also.

What I actually mean is that if he already visit william and get the key in the early days, he wont able to capture screenshot of william in the later broken valley, since 99.9% william will be dead once he getting down the stairs.

But he didn't. I was able to escape before he was killed.
