A lot of problems can be solve through reading your quest log. You can proceed to aleroth without completing the quests actually is you are impatient. You just need a set of required zappelin parts to repair 1 ship to get you to aleroth. Collecting 3 sets will let you solve the quests for extra reward and exp.
