Have you read the book that lay down near the first statue you met? In that book you can read all statues lie!!!! This is the best hint!
I have search for a long time too to find out how to open the gate! I have successed on my own
Think logical: if ALL is
a lie that what each statue says, so what is your conclusion? Think logical is my advise...
The best hint I also can give: write the 2 hints each statue give you down a paper, it helps.
Success!
And if you wish to fight more than once some enemies, try the gate and each time you fail, enemies comes up... and you get extra XP + some randomly loot if you're a lucky one
