It seems that forums' search index DB has fixed size and "forgets" old fulltext data which is older than a half-year. It's a bit funny since search function has older date range, like 3 years.
An example:
Divinity 2 - Ego Draconis (English) » Divinity 2 - Ego Draconis section has a thread named as "upcoming patch" which is definitely not over 3 years old, but know what? You can't find it when don't know exact name, no matter how hard you try, no matter what date range you specify, no matter what wildcard mask is (even *patch* does not work).

Can someone from forum tech-admins fix that?

The thread does show up - if you search for "upcoming patch" (with quotation marks). It doesn't seem to appear in the search results when searching for upcoming patch (without quotation marks), though.

The problem is, at least I assume, that if you enter two words, the engine looks for either of them - AND only the first 200 results are shown.

So, if you look for upcoming patch, it lists the firs 200 posts with either "upcoming" or "patch" or "upcoming"+"patch". That's why you can't find the specific thread very easily.

If you however search for +upcoming +patch, the engine looks for both words in the post... and actually finds your thread because there are not that many posts with both words in it.
You can also play around with the range date, like looking for posts newer than 3 months and older than 1 month for example and find posts of your wanted thread, too. And btw, the date range of the engine is more than 3 years, it covers actually all posts. Just the date range within the specific search is done, cannot be greater than 3 years. So you can search for posts older than 3 and newer than 6 years for example.

And yes, the search engine of this board software is a major pain in the behind if you ask me. wink

I personally never liked UBBthreads, without a reason tho.

so how can i phrase it to search if someone has figured out how to get to lord lovis in the haunted citadel tower right after the first time you meet damion and turn into a dragon for the first time after telana gives you her powers? i put a post up but i don't necessarily want to wait for however long it takes for some helpful person to notice.

People have already answered in your other topic, but searching for '+Lord +Lovis' in the subject, in posts in the last year would probably give the most accurate results. Searching in the subject and body would catch additional helpful posts that were not titled very clearly, as well as a bunch of irrelevant references.
