i may continue to troubleshoot the issue, but what else can i do besides what i have tried? short of re-installing Windows there isn't much else i can do. and that would be a monumental task as i have many dozens of programs that i would also have to install. i don't see one game as a reason to do that.
i was thinking of removing all codecs i have installed but then i thought even if i do remove them, there would be remnants left over that i couldn't remove using Add/Remove programs in control panel. is there any utility that i could use to remove all traces of any and all codecs.
oh btw i forgot to mention that i am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
