I say archer is also great, but I don't use a pure archer!! So I put always a skillpoint in a mage spell to use, like for example Magic Blast, Magic Missile or Fireball or ...
But now I play my second time and begin with an archer! I love to use a bow and surprise most of the enemies
... and after several levels I put a skillpoint in Ranger Stealth, great & funny skill! Poison arrow is also funny to use first and than shoot further with your bow and/or use magic or a melee attack
