If you copy the contents of the DVD to a folder on your hard drive, can you run the install from there?
I don't know if you are suppose to be able to install from the hard drive, but the attempt will at least help narrow down the problem.
Do you have access to another computer you could try the install on, at least to see if the initial screen will come up, or not?
