Okay well, a while ago I had uninstalled Divine Divinity (patched to 1.34a) but kept my save game (the point before I hit the gong to become the Divine One). So just yesterday I decided to finish the game. I'm using a friends version from his cd, I patched it to 1.34a then put my save game folder in, but when I try to load it, it crashes me to desktop and when I check the error log it says:

Error copying savegames\quicksave.1\inv.b0 to dynamic\inventb.000

Now I looked into it, and none of my save games from my previous divine divinity contain an inv.b0 file, yet all my friends saved games do. When I drag one of his inv.b0 files into my old save game, it works, yet all the items are wrong. For example a shield will read as if it were an amulet, and none of the items have any affects on my stats. Also it will have all my friends items, not mine.

I have 31 folders in my save game that I'm trying to load, so the only missing one is inv.b0. Also, I did a system restore recently to fix a computer problem, but when I undo the restore inv.b0 doesn't appear in my old save games. Is there a program where I can create any item in my inv? or is this save game doomed?

Can someone help? I'd like to continue with my old character and not just use my friends =[

You can run around to merchants to get replacement equipment (inventories reset after 10 or 15 minutes real time, depending on the merchant).

DAD's item editor would let you make reasonable replicas of your previous equipment.

If you need gold to replace your equipment, you can get an unlimited supply...
Drag a stack (potions, gold, etc) out of (or into) your inventory (or container) and hold down the control key before dropping. This will bring up the split stack pane; type in a negative number and hit enter (the checkmark will be greyed out). This can also be done in the trade window.

The inv.b0 file keeps track of things you have equipped and things in your inventory. It is mixing the inventory files from different saves that caused the problem, so new equipment should be fine, as should anything you left on the ground or stored in chests.

Any missing quest items, teleporter stones, etc can be replaced (if you don't have both teleporter stones in your inventory when you hit the gong, replacements will be provided anyway, which you can find near the start of the wastelands).

Lost Items - guide and directory of inventory files

I tested replacing the inv.b0 file in one of my save with that from a new save some time ago (when someone else had this problem), and lost everything I had equipped. My previously empty weapon and armour sections had various pieces of equipment, I ended up with different potions and in the miscellaneous section, my pile of gold, a couple other things and a teleporter stone were replaced with 4 piles of gold.
Everything stored in chests seemed to be fine, though, so if you kept backup equipment at your home base, you may not have to do as much replacement to get your character functional again.

ok, i am new to the site, and i am having a huge problem.
I have beaten Divine Divinity twice before, but i just zoomed through both of them, getting used to the gameplay and such. The maximum level i have ever been at is thirty nine. Now, i am trying to solve every quest i can, with as good a rep as i can get. Right now, i am in elona's dungeon, at level twenty four.(i like killing every orc alive) I saved the game, and quit. My cat unplugged my computer before it completely quit. This jacked up my game apparantly, because i go to load this good game, and it gets about two cenimeters loaded on the sword, then my screen blacks out and my computer says that an error has occured. I did about three defrags, and a disk cleanup, but it still wont load past that two cenimeters. i am really po'ed, because it took me two days to get that far. Oh, and how do u replicate the healing stone in Aleroth? i never did figure that one out. And who is tingis' supplier?

Is it crashing trying to load the game, or your latest save?

For the game, you could just re-install it, or there is a file verification procedure (for the disk version) in the topic below.

Troubleshooting Tips (& manual install procedure)

Try deleting all of the files in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder. If you have the patch installed (or you bought a re-release version that was already updated to 1.0034A, as shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu) and reset the configuration files at least once after a crash when prompted, the dynamic folder should already have been cleared.
This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem.

If the problem is loading the save, check the number of files in the saved game folder (in '..\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames'). Missing files might cause the game to crash when trying to load. A new game should have 22 files, after going to either Verdistis or the Dark Forest it should have 27 and after going to both it should have 32.

One person had a crash in Windows 5 or 10 minutes after exiting the game, and on rebooting Windows decided there was a problem with the (zero byte) inv.b2 file in all the recent saves, and deleted them. Fortunately this file can easily be replaced. Perhaps something similar happened to you, since the save process presumably finished before you started to exit the game.

For the healing stone in Aleroth, you need to finish that before completing the escort quest for the healers or getting an invitation to the castle. In one of the northern houses in Aleroth you can find a magic mirror as well as a book describing its use (between or behind some crates/packages).
You need to drop the mirror in a large pool of water (the puddle SE of Goemoe's house), then when it disappears, drop the healing gem. Don't tell either healer that you have cured their patient until you have cured both of them.

For Tingalf, after you ask him about his supplier, he says something about keeping his goods nearby, or under foot, or something like that. Head to the centre of the Ars Magicana square and take the sewer entrance down, then head east a few steps.

Well, I don't know much about all of that technical crap, but my friend came over and did something to it, cause it started working again. Of course, though, i saved and tried to load again. It crashed. I don't mean that the screen just blacked out, it crashed. For about an hour. I had to remove about half the total files on my computer, uninstall DD, then i had to restart the computer and reinstall it. Then i restarted it again. I erased all files and started a new game. Oh, and i figured out the magic mirror thing about five minutes after i posted that. Currently heading to blue boar inn to find the poison in the locked room. Dr.Elrath will be discovered!(for a fourth time)

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
