Understand I've been at this game for about a week now, so the thought of losing ALL of the save data due to the patch screwing up has me at my patience' end. I'll start from square one.

Divinity II- PC Version, Windows 7 User

Beginning of the game was pretty much no problem other than raw difficulty even at normal level. Taught me to save practically every engagement, which was important- Tutorial through Battle Tower had relatively few to no crash issues, once the step into Fjords commenced it was like the game suddenly couldn't function. I couldn't walk out of a map and into another without saving at the door without the game crashing randomly. Once the game started doing it's crash cycle I'd have to restart the entire computer to get it to stop- which time quickly began adding up.

Finally I decided I'd had enough and figured a patch or something must have existed, low and behold I found 1.03 and tried patching. During the patch it told me that it didn't have access to the .exe file. I clicked okay, not thinking, and the patched finished with the game not being able to open AT ALL. It seems it either deleted the old and replaced it with something unusual, or the remainder of the patch all relies solely on the .exe file and thus are useless.

Panicked I read through the files trying to find the saved data forms so I can uninstall and reinstall with the patch and continue on where I left off... but I can't find them. Does anybody know where to look or am I about to find a new game due to frustration overload?

Final Straw Broken:

Tried to reinstall Divinity II and now every time I try a few of the files "can't load because they're corrupt". For $30, this isn't worth the headache and frustration anymore. I'm headed over to upload the system files as well as whatever I can recall about the data to the other tech-support, who apparently is just filing and resubmitting the data to yet another company's tech-support, and throwing the game out. Gamestop won't give a refund for any PC game once the plastic is opened, and thanks to Divinity II I can finally understand why- they'd lose more money than they'd gained by purchasing the rights to sell this half-finished and underdeveloped game if they actually refunded the money.

Note: I'll be a bit leary of Divinity III, should it ever be developed and released, but I can't help to fault myself for not doing my homework on either the game title or any of it's producers. The game's ratings have been atrocious due to the severe issues, and Autodesk 2010, which is one of the engines used to create this game, is one I use to do my drawings as an electrician... If that's not exactly "third party development", I'm not sure what is. Lesson learned and moving on.

In Vista / Win 7 the saves are in the folder below. You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders.

C:\Users\ %username% \AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Savegames

I don't know much about trouble shooting this game yet, so I can't help you with your problems, but I did want to comment on this, as it is quite far from reality.

First: Autodesk is company, not a game engine. This company happens to own virtually all 3d software used in the industry. The one you mention for drawings as an electrician is probably AutaCad along with some of it's suites of add-ons. Autodesk also owns both 3DS Max and Maya, the 2 main programs for game development and even 3d effects in movies. However, neither of these is a game engine, as Autodesk does not have one. They are for creating 3d assets such as character models, rigging, animation, effects, etc.

The engine that Divinity2 uses is Gamebryo: The same engine as Civ 4, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and many other top games.

The main thing you should take away from this is to always patch first.

I hope someone can fix your problems, and you can go back to enjoying this game as you seemed to have before the problems started. Good Luck

@ Topic,

"can't load because they're corrupt" may also be an issue with your DVD drive. I am also using Windows 7 (32 bit). So far, it runs very smoothly.

Also, when patching a game, or installing something, always do it from your Administrator account in your PC. Other accounts cannot edit every exe file. I also patched the game (1.03 - great patch) after playing it a bit, and I reinstalled the game from my F drive to my C drive to get better performance. I did not have any problems with all these.
