"can't load because they're corrupt" may also be an issue with your DVD drive. I am also using Windows 7 (32 bit). So far, it runs very smoothly.
Also, when patching a game, or installing something, always do it from your Administrator account in your PC. Other accounts cannot edit every exe file. I also patched the game (1.03 - great patch) after playing it a bit, and I reinstalled the game from my F drive to my C drive to get better performance. I did not have any problems with all these.
