Has anyone experienced graphical artifacts so severe that it makes the game unplayable?
performance wise the game is ok but even turning the settings all the way down the nasty artifacts are still there.

I'm running Windows 7 x64
ATI Radeon HD4870 X2
Drivers are up to date
no other games have artifacts

Someone with Win 7 64 and an ATI HD4870 reported occasional graphical artifacts (with the UK or Australian version of the game), which they fixed by running the game as administrator and disabling desktop composition. Maybe that would help? Right click on the D2:ED shortcut, select Properties and switch to the Compatibility tab.

Have you tried running at different resolutions?

Yea, neither of those settings worked. I've tried changing all resolutions and graphical settings and the problem doesnt go away.

The game doesn't support Crossfire / SLI, so you could try disabling it (if you haven't already) and see if that helps.

Yea I already turned off Catalyst A.I. One thing interesting is that it looks like its the grass and flora that isnt rendering correctly. its almost like the grass is getting stretched really far at all weird angles....I could play the game if I could turn the grass off but it looks like you can only change the quality setting of it.

I'd post a screenshot but I'm not sure how to do that in the game.

I don't know if the PC version has a screenshot function (I played the Xbox version), but you could hit the PrintScreen button, exit or Alt-Tab out of the game, and paste the image into a graphics program.

These topics are pretty old, and should probably be updated or replaced, but:

I can see where that might interfere a tad with gameplay...

Hopefully if someone else has run into anything like this they will post some more suggestions.
In the meantime, have you emailed Larian (support@larian.com)? They may respond in the forum, but I think they focus more on email for support.
