Gold isn't useless, it just get pretty easy to get as the game progresses. I found or (mostly) bought 59 silver charms before moving to the wastelands, as well as a bunch of mage skill books, and still had almost 1.5 million in gold. When I started buying charms it was partly to get rid of loot and partly so I would be able to add a boost to equipment if I started running into problems. Except for 1 gold strength charm (dropped by the dragon rider Zandalor kills), I didn't use any charms, though, as the game tends to get easier as it progresses (after exploring past Stormfist castle and getting the bastard sword that the knight there drops, I had to go up another level and use the strength charm to meet the minimum requirements to use the sword).
I did buy a few pieces of equipment, especially near the start of the game, but for the most part relied on found or dropped loot.

Still having fun wiht this game. Just hit level 14 or so. My warrior (with a dash of survivor sklls) starts fights with a bow then switches to sword n shield if need be. AGI, STR, and CON all are around 35 or 40. Just bought an *awesome* sword off a travelling merchant that I passed on the road. I'm guessing his loot is random, but eiher way I was thrilled to see that sword for sale. Finally offloaded all those axes from the first dungeon in a trade for my new blade.

Have been exploring the Cursed Abbey, but the lower level is looking too tough for me so I'll come back later. Loved the part out in the woods when I saw a gem, which led to another gem, then another... knew it had to be a trap, but it was a fun trap, so I followed it along. smile Sense of humor in this game is pretty good.

Nice discusion here on the value or repair, trader's tongue, and identify.

One question though, if a person just dabbles in a few points each into stun, evade traps, evade arrows, will they still be somewhat useful at higher levels? As in is a 5% chance of stun against a level 5 monster still a 5% chance against a high level monster, or do they have resistance built in somewhere?

A 5% chance is a 5% chance, but Stun doesn't work on enemies with high Spiritual Resistance, and Spiritual Resistance gets more common the further along you go.

Evade Traps isn't that great, there are very few traps in the game. It's best to just save often. Evade Arrows should still work though.

Playing a warrior (mostly) you should end up with lots of spare skill points.

Even neglecting spiritual resistance, a 5% chance wouldn't kick in very often. If you run into a tough opponent, Stun can be very helpful when maxed (especially if you get the first hit in and keep hitting), but if it takes 20 hits in order get triggered, it may not be much help (though fighting normal opponents it would still help every 5 or 10 fights, depending on how many swings it takes per opponent).

There are not enough areas in the game that are trapped to make it worth the effort to learn the Evade Traps skill (after the catacombs I can only think of another small area with traps... there is a trapped barrel somewhere, but you can avoid the trap by smashing it open). IMNSHO you would be better off just buying Spell Shield spell books (which would also help against opponents that do poison damage; ie around the cursed abbey) and possibly Aura of Guarding books (though most traps are magical).

I never found archers to be a problem, so didn't put anything into Evade Arrows. One level of Reflect Missiles was kind of handy to help me spot archers faster, but even maxed it wouldn't be much use for doing damage.
