Not sure if this has been covered or not. But what the heck.

Pretty much cleaned house, up to level 32. Love the game, but it's a bit wonky at times. Now I'm returning back to Broken Valley, cleaned the snot out of the entire area. No more bad guys, just clear sailing. Found the only way (at least that I'm aware of) to gain entrance to the mine where the last part is to enter the 'hall' is to complete the quest with I believe his name is Wesson, located in the mine area with the two small towers. One tower you can not enter, the other tower is a 3 story one, with two heavy handed people at the base---and 3 to save in the top.

I removed the threat of the two wonders in the base...make it to the top. One guy has the " ! " above his head. One lady is thanking me, the other guy just wants to "Breath". The other guy? Nothing. Can't engage him in any fashion. He just stands there with the " ! " over his head.

One possible clue I can offer? Back in the earlyyyyyyyyyy part of the game where you get warned not to engage the 'Black Ring', you all remember---when they blew up the mine?

Well, some of us can't just leave well enough alone. Tried my hand at the two ringers and got my tail kicked (at the low level). So I got sneaky and went through the upper doors, HAD the conversation with Mr. " ! " only to get the snot kicked out of me when they came up stairs. I bailed out--over the stair case and back out the door. Now I think the guy did give me a key during the conversation? But if he did? It's not working now. Or did the fact I did the conversation, bailed out...and now am returning to finish it--Did that cause the game to lock that quest out?

I've saved and restarted several times...Went back out of the area--cleaned out another battle tower--went to rescue Zand's and company to get the item--Returned back...and it seems like I'm locked out of finishing this?!?

Any suggestions? Other then restart the game from the ground up?

Best Regards,

The entrance to the mine should be marked on your map (Broken Valley map); it is a little south east of the quarry tower (where you rescued the guild master and others). The other tower that you can not enter is the top of Lovis' tower, and there is nothing there but Dr Needleman (he is missing his hat, so can be mindread to get the password for his storage area, where you may have been teleported high above by Bellagar earlier in the game, though there is nothing of any great value there).

Thanks for the welcome!

The mine is marked with the "Scroll". I managed to find the good doctor, and his store room. Kinda wish I could do more for the poor guy. I did peek into his storage, LOL. Makes me wish they had something in the storage that could be used to give him a cure.

Rescuing the guild master seems to be the issue. The two along with the guild masters gave me the responses ("Breath" and "Hate to think what the guy downstairs wanted to do with me"...or something along those lines) So I've found the trio of people, but the one with the " ! " over his head? Won't even engage me in any dialog. The mine entrance itself states it can not be lock picked. So I guess I need a key---which from what I understand is given after completing the guild without a master quest. Sense the guy won't engage me in conversation? I'm stuck.

When you first talked to the guild master you should have had the option to ask about getting into the mine, at which point he should have given you the key. Apparently you didn't get that far, or the interruption reset something.

Who came upstairs, the original two that were on the first floor?
If so, maybe talking to the guild master before defeating them confused part of the game, or starting the conversation and then waiting so long before returning caused a problem.

What should happen is that after you get the key the guild master decides it is time to leave, and four black ring archers come upstairs (which I assumed were the 'they' you mentioned). You and the miners should be able to take them out on the stairs, and then there are 3 black ring warriors on the first floor.

Try emailing support@larian.com. With your save maybe they can reset the guild master, or give you the key.

The first go-around we had the entire group of black ringers--that's when I bailed.

The second time around (at level 31) Only the two high level guys showed up and were defeated. The others never showed up (the four black ring archers). Just had the two high level ones, the cut scene that played out the first time was them talking about "why send hostages...etc....." That didn't happen this time around. Oddly enough? I'm not sure if this is just back round effect or 'music' per say. But while standing next to the " ! " guy? It sounds like a whole bunch of people climbing stairs. LOL. Pity they never show up to say hello!

Your theory sounds spot-on. I've got several keys in inventory all in the 'quest' section that appear not to do anything. I imagine one of those keys is the one for the mine door, but the game won't allow it to open the door.

I'll give their support an email. Perhaps they can think of something.

Cut and pasted our conversations over to the support email. With luck they can debug this problem or think of a way to work around it.

I also mentioned at the end a small note: Next time give the old Wizard some older looks and voice LOL. He sounds like he's about 20 years younger then I am---with a beard I'm well on the way of growing with all the gray and white.

There are a few chests that you can lockpick before finding the corresponding key, so it is not hard to end up with extras.

As for Zanalor's voice and appearance, you don't get to be a 700 or so year old wizard without a hearty constitution or learning a few magical tricks to deal with aging.

True enough. But you'd think he would at least braid the beard for a more 'Hip' appearance.
