As many have already stated (and I realize I'm coming in 3 months after the last post), the graphics do not "kill" the game for me. They're simpler than some other games, but definitely on the artistic side, which I appreciate. The cut-scene graphics look great to me, and I can easily immerse myself in the Divinity world.
I tend towards the rough-edged graphics, as opposed to the "spit polish" kind-- in my opinion, the rough-edge graphics look more artistic and 'hand made', which is my preference.
Also can't help but to mention-- if the storyline isn't good enough, the graphics don't matter to me! I play games for story and immersion (same reason for reading fiction-- immersion into a life other than the one I live), so the former is paramount to me. Larian definitely has good storyline w/ Divinity and Ego Draconis, but I had a hard time getting into Beyond Divinity (preference being for open world exploring, less dungeons). I am looking forward, with great anticipation, to the add-on!
Something I learned very early on when I started gaming was this: do not compare one game with another, enjoy it for itself. I may like one over another, but I can appreciate each game/story for itself-- just as I would with a book or movie.
