Larian Studios Forums Divinity 2 - Ego Draconis (English) Help/Tips/Tricks Poss Spoiler-William & Guild w/o Master Quest

This is my 2nd play-through, but I need a tip here 'cause I can't remember how I played this portion of the game previously. I'm trying to secure the sigil, but I was not successful for some reason in keeping William alive to get the key for the mine to finish up HOE Bound. I have all the other things I need.

I've been fooling around in Broken Valley for a very long time and then took a look at my quest failures and see that I failed The Guild w/o a Master which means Wm died. Is there another way to secure the key I need to continue on or is this a lost cause making me backtrack. A shove in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Because this is a Main Quest it MUST be possible to secure the key to go in the Mine and find the last thing you need for HOE Bound.

I played like this: take all the loot I can when I first came at the mine quarter, but don't go IN the tower where the level 27 Black rings are (and the Guild Master to trigger that quest "Guild without a Master").
After I have my Battle Tower and I'm level 26 or higher I fly to the Minetower and rescue the Guildmaster William and he give me the key...


Maybe you can go the gate of the mine and try to go in?

Whether the quest fails or not is irrelevant; you just need the key, and Williams doesn't decide to rush downstairs (though the 4 rangers that come upstairs and the 3 black ring warriors at the bottom) until you have it.

If you have the battle tower, you should just need to fly a bit south east of the quarry tower to reach the mine entrance.
