Alpha Protocol is fantastic. Yes, it does have a few issues, but no more than the original Mass Effect. And I enjoyed the first Mass Effect more than Mass Effect 2 due to the heavier RPG elements. Alpha Protocol is the same way. It has a dice roll combat system that I want in an RPG. Leveling up actually matters and you can see your skills improve immediately.

The story is well told and the voice acting is excellent. I love being a sarcastic badass.

The one really impressive thing in Alpha Protocol is how the dialogue can play out. You really shape the story. It offers so much replayabilty. I've already experienced 3 endings. But that's not the most impressive thing. You see immediate changes to the story and how it plays out according to how you play the game. You can completely miss characters the first time through according to your style of play and how you handle situations. The consequence of every action is so deeply integrated into the RPG systems and dialogue system that every encounter can vary greatly each time.

This is one for the ages. It's problematic in some areas, but most genre defining games are. For me, Alpha Protocol defines the TPS/Action/RPG genre more than Mass Effect ever did.

My Favorite RPGs: Divinity franchise, Gothic franchise (including Arcania, so I think I'm alone...), Venetica, Risen, Two Worlds II, The Witcher, Sacred franchise, Fallout franchise, Mass Effect 1, Alpha Protocol, Planescape: Torment, Drakensang, KOTOR 1 & 2, etc.
