Maybe you can choose to NOT use your creature at all ?
In my first playthrough I didn't use my creature at all! It is possible without your creature.
(okay, I played the first time on "low" difficulty - but still ... )
For me the creature isn't annoying (or just sometimes, yes) ...
A little bit annoying, but after a while I spend no attention on "my creatures peeing everywhere" ...
... and he/she is helpful in combat, that's the most important thing
