In this stunning finale to Divinity II - Ego Draconis, the Dragon Knight spreads his wings once again as he seeks to free the Divine from his astral prison and save Aleroth from the Black Ring's overwhelming assault.

If the Dragon Knight succeeds, does that mean that the Divine One will return and become the hero once again in Divinity 3? I could see that working. Let's say that in getting free, he loses most of his powers and has to start out at level 1. No one will believe that he's the Divine One, since the Divine One was killed decades ago, and he needs to spend a lot of the game doing something to restore his divine powers.

Then, after that, it's time for him to confront his son, and once and for all, correct the mistake he made.

Does that sound like a plausible direction that Larian will take Divinity 3?

Of course, that might require losing flexibility on character creation, like say, his name, gender and appearance, which were established in Divinity 2. But that could have benefits like full voice acting for the main character.

I'm curious to see how it is the Dragon KNight is able to escape, but not the Divine One... Patriarch interference?

There are a few people who know what the dragon knight was up to (Zandalor in particular), and would at least realize something was wrong when Damian and Ygerna showed up and started destroying stuff. Lucian was believed dead, so no one would have thought to look for him.

It is also possible that the dragon knight and Divine could pool their talents, and find a way to escape. I'd think outside help was more likely, though, and Zandalor's buddy from the ministry is good with searching other realms / dimensions.

As for Divinity 3, I don't think people would refuse to believe Lucian was the Divine One, but he would probably need to loose his powers if he was the main character (to make it easier to balance / design the game, and allow for a different skill system, etc). An illusionist could take care of the character customization.

He may be relegated to support staff (like Zandalor), perhaps using all his powers to counter Damian, while the player characters goes off on a quest to tip the balance of power.
An interesting premise would be to re-assemble the council of seven again. The player could track down the remaining elves, dwarves, etc, who were either in hiding, or escaped Rivellon with the help of rebel Raanaar, or something.

There's no problem I can see wink

Maybe possible speculations can give Larian ideas for making Divinity 3!
So we can give not only speculations, but a better word will be: "sugestions" wink

I can ask questions by myself when I think about Divinity III ... like:
* will there be again dragons and/or can I (hero) transform into a dragon again... ?
* is it again in Rivellon or a whole new world?
* again more races like in DD?
* some NEW original ideas like for instance "Mindreading" was in Divinity II ?
* a whole free enormous world to explore?
* tons of humour, lots of fun ... ?
* fantastic music by Kirill ... ?
* again a free to use skill-system ? (not like in BD!) ...
* very deep quests and side quests, many hidden aera's and other secrets!!!
* Two specific wishes for Divinity III :
1) if I must do a difficult quest or puzzle (like with jumping from platform to platform and with "time-based" elements) .. please Larian, fix it so I can find at least a great item (gear, weapon, rare precious thing...) for my efforts, especially by SIDE quests! (a kind rewards for the gamer who take the time discover all things).
For example I was a little bit confused when I open a chest after a not so (for me anyway) easy platform puzzle ...
2) a seemless world and if there IS a place of NO RETURN, please give the gamer at least a shopkeeper (like in the Wastelands in DD) and not like in the Hall of Echoes (whatever it comes after, expansion or not!), please!

Many thanks in advance ! smile

Maybe yes Alrik,

but I think the Larian team would not wait for making a new game ... now FoV is at a point of distribution ... now they have a little more time to "Mindmapping" about a next game!

Or saying it with another word: "Brainstorming".

All ideas would be welcome! (I think!)

Greetings,
Joram

It is also possible that Damian will be vanquished at the end of FoV, and Div 3 will be about something else entirely... because otherwise what would be the reason for the Dragon Knight to disappear at the end of FoV (which (s)he apparently will do)?

Glad to hear Macbeth wink

If I have more ideas, sugestions, fantasies or whatever ... I write down here smile !

What I find very cool in Divinity II is the fact I can choose soem other "music" from Kirill in the Throne Room of my Battle Tower delight Sooo cool!! Do it again somewhere in Divinity III!

Kirill, you make fantastic music!!

Maybe this is possible? :
A quest you can do in different ways. I explain:
Our hero must go on a mission to find a real strong artefact he can later combine this with a equipment to make a Holy weapon or amulet or ... or he can choose between ....
This artefact lay somewhere deep under and can only find if our hero go through dark catacombes, caves, tunnels .... and must find this artefact and bring it back to solve this quest ...

The fact is now that our hero can take different strategies to solve this quest.
He can make his way and strike all enemies down ...
Or he can take a clever way: he persuade enemies in a pit or find levers to locked doors so he can bypass enemies ....
Or he find a way down (like tunnels) where no enemies are, but on that way he must try not to die because that way is full of dangerous traps!! He can find solutions to take away a trap by finding mechanisms (like for example read in a dusty book some "hints" laying by the hand of a dead body or something) ...

All in all, our hero can take a strategy on different ways and go back to take another way if the other isn't satisfying him ... The warroir can also be a battle mage or ranger to defeat all enemies on his way... with the skills he like.

The reward is not really the same: the gamer who go the way like a warrior and kill all the enemies can take more XP than a gamer who wish to solve puzzles or a combination! The way you take down enemies via traps is a clever way, but give our hero no XP or less XP ...
But the way via killing all enemies on your way have less traps/puzzles (or no traps/puzzles?) to solve!
On the other hand, solving puzzles can give more loot to compensate the less XP and with this loot he can make more gold.

Also a possibility:
IF a gamer wish, he/she can do the quest (in some places of the catacombs) in 2 ways: find the hidden tunnels (with puzzles) and do this and later on go back and kill all enemies or make a combination: kill enemies and/or find levers etc to set a trap for 1 or a group of enemies.

If something is not clear enough, ask! And all sugestions are welcome wink

I disagree. Right on the Divinity 2: FOV website, is some perfect speculation fuel.

It says that the Dragon Knight will try and free the Divine One from imprisonment. It's easy to think of a way to rationalize and say "oops, that worked, but now he is weakened and depowered" and poof, you have a player character. It would also be very fitting if the Divine One is the one who takes down Damian. It was his destiny all along.

That is certainly possible, but I believe that:

(Speculation)
The one who the Dragon Knight REALLY wants revenge on is Y'Gerna. She's the one who tricked and trapped him, and she would be a suitable final boss. Damian just showed up occasionally to warn the player to "cut it out" before at most throwing a few inept guards at him.

If the Dragon Knight vanishes at the end, it might be to free the Divine, so even if the Dragon Knight dies, there will still be a sense of hope and victory because it will have real meaning. (Heck, he might even pull off a Talana with the Divine.)

Lifts-Her-Tail: Certainly not, kind sir! I am here but to clean your chambers.

Crantius Colto: Is that all you have come here for, little one? My chambers?

Lifts-Her-Tail: I have no idea what it is you imply, master. I am but a poor Argonian maid.

Crantius Colto: So you are, my dumpling. And a good one at that. Such strong legs and shapely tail.

Lifts-Her-Tail: You embarrass me, sir!

Crantius Colto: Fear not. You are safe here with me.

Lifts-Her-Tail: I must finish my cleaning, sir. The mistress will have my head if I do not!

Crantius Colto: Cleaning, eh? I have something for you. Here. Polish my spear.

Lifts-Her-Tail: But it is huge! It could take me all night!

Crantius Colto: Plenty of time, my sweet. Plenty of time.

OKay, I see. wink

Sometimes I wished I would have ways to bring my own ideas into a game, too ... I mean, what I already wrote here and in older parts of this forum wink most probably sounds quite weird in some parts. wink

I'm thinking differently. I'm trying to figure out what would kind of "feel" good to me. Kind of "epic".

When I saw the Belfort of Ghent, I was thinking : Woah, THAt is BIG !

And I thought : Yes, I would like to have a totally EPIC "end game", a final battle, with - that's my dream - the Goddess herself who kind of "blessed" the Divine One - with HER fighting ALONGSIDE the player's character, and she would be AS HIGH as the Belfort !

Now THAT would be epic !

On the other hand, the "other side" of the battle (read: the baddies) would have to have something equal to that ... But remember what the earliest tales say about the Damned One ?

I just want a game which instills into the player the absolute feeling of stnding on the GOOD side - an I wouldn't be afraid of using, making it so epic like it would be Shakespearean. I mean, who has the possibility to fight alongside a God himself ? Or even btter ? A Goddess ? Because in normal clichés, it is always the male part(ner) who is the warrior, who is fighting. But in Greek mythology there was also Athene. Who WAS a fierce warrior ! Or Diana ! The Huntress !

Now, the mere possibility to fight alongside a God or even a Goddess (females + war ? = unusual, according to usual clichés) would be topped by the fact that this Goddess would be HUGE ! It would have the height of a TOWER ! Of course, the game's engine would have to incorporate a very good collision detection, or the player's character would suddenly find himself or herself beneath a foot !

A Goddess with the hight of a tower ... That would male the player feel SMALL. HE or she would be ... like haviong a "big brother" or "big sister" at his or her side ... and probably feel so small like a leaf in the wind ... Like a caterpillar or an ant, easily to stomp upon ...

The player would feel small ... yet being protected by a force that is so big it is beyond all measures of the player character's imagination ...

This is a bit like how the people would feel against Sauron. Or against Manwe. Only much, much smaller. The people.
And this is also a little bit ... if people come to realize who Gandalf REALLY is ... If they EVER realize it ... Gandalf just ISN'T the tiny, small, old man with his grey cloaks and the funny-looking hat ... No, he just appears so, because he *wants* to appear this way ... He wants to be small, funny-looking and grey ... Because that's the best way to hide the /his "real self" ...

And ... remembering that Tolkien was a christian man, this relates to Jesus. Someone, who hd been trying hard to hide his "real self". Someone who learnesd to become a carpenter instead, and uttered funny words while being in the Temple. Sometthing about ... merchants who shouldn't be there or so ...

To me, this is what I call "epic". "Shakespearean". It is about ignioting certain feelings into the player. Something like ... being small. Being vulnerable. But at the same time being protected by ... let's say a "big sister".

And maybe, this "big sister" reveals herself after roaming around for decades in funny-looking clothes. Maybe not grey. Maybe not blue. Mybe even colourful, because the cliché says: Those who colour themselves colourful beyond measures must be nothing but insane.

And then ... When the time has finally come, the final confrontation, the "big sister" throws her insanely-looking clothes away. Then, she reveals her power like Gandalf revealed his power against the Balrog. Power beyond measure, power that people just couldn't imagine before, partly because of the well-done camouflage.

Epic storytelling is - in my opinion - a LOT about emotions. And it has to be a good ending, of course. wink So good, that people might want to cry. And please NOT with that "omg, he has died" trick anymore - that's so much used, so often used, so much worn out it isn't funny anymore.

That's an interesting idea, actually. The concept of illusionists existing in-game actually lends quite a bit of flexibility. Perhaps at the start of the game, because he is weak and depowered temporarily, he has to disguise himself with an illusionist for a while until he can regain his powers, after that, he can resume his real appearance?

This idea is interesting, but if the Divine One does return, I don't really like the idea of having him either sit on the sidelines while the player does all the work, or he goes off to do the IMPORTANT stuff like fighting Damian while the player character acts as his coffee-fetcher.

Divine Divinity and Ego Draconis both established that the incarnation of the Chaos Lord (which is what Damian is - is so incredibly powerful that no mortal can defeat him. That's why the Marked one needed to become the Divine One - so he could defeat the Demon of Lies (who also had a piece of a god inside him). Ego Draconis has you trying to kill Damian through the soul-forge because you couldn't do it yourself.

I don't think that Divinity 3 would really work that well if the objective is to kill Damian, but you can't do it because you're not the Divine One. Also, as I said, it would be more fitting and hopefully more emotionally moving if Lucian is the one who has to kill Damian, even though he considers him his son. If it's just "Insert Name Here" Hero who kills Damian, you lose that emotional connection.

The idea of gathering another Council of Seven is an interesting one, considering how much worse the world is now, what with Elves apparently going extinct, Dwarves in hiding (or also dead), Orcs as slaves to the Black Ring, Imps hostile, and Lizards missing. But it might be kinda repetitive of Divinity 1 if you had to do that again, depending on how it was handled.

In Divine Divinity gathering the council of seven was a fairly small portion of the game, and in several cases wasn't much more complicated than going to talk to the selected person, perhaps killing a few opponents on your way. If this was going to be part of Divinity 3, it could be expanded upon quite a bit, with more elaborate plot lines and much more varied environments.

Maybe in order to be freed from the Hall of Echoes, the Divine's soul will 'reincarnate' in the body of a newbie level 1 hero somewhere in Rivellon (male or female)... who will then go on a quest to finish off Damian for good.

I'm still - since Divinity 1 already ! - wondering what happened with the Goddess ... I mean th one from which the Divine One has his powers from ...

This is - still ! - an unsolved riddle to me.
