I played Div Div and Beyond Div, so I was delighted to see this game released. I tried the PC demo and really liked it, but I couldnt get a handle on the combat. I wanted to play a mage (why does mage get a mace?), anyway, I use the arrow keys to move plus the mouse to aim, which makes using the keyboard numbers for spells very awkward. I have used a similar system in MMO's for using spells, but in the MMO's, the left and right mouse buttons govern movement and aiming, so I'm really having problems with this. How does the 360 version compare with the PC version with regard to combat, maybe I would find that more comfortable, are both games completely the same, quality wise? Sorry for all the questions, but need to know, so I can decide on which platform to get. Thanks

You can use a gamepad with the PC version of D2:ED. Re-mapping the hotkeys may also help.
The PC and Xbox versions are the same, content-wise. The UI and camera controls are different. Graphics are better on the PC, of course, with more options.
For combat on the Xbox, the left stick controls movement, while you can assign melee or ranged attacks, skills, etc, to the 4 buttons or pad directions. Using a melee or ranged attack/skill will have your character automatically switch to the appropriate weapon, if required. Playing a warrior I assigned X melee attack, A range attack, Y Rush Attack, B whirlwind, left Dragon Stone, right Dragon Morph stone (both after getting the battle tower), up Heal (level 1 comes in handy) and down summon creature (after getting it).
For potions, I generally just paused (or had the low hit point auto-pause kick in) and hit a shoulder button to bring up a similar menu as with assigning button actions. That is also handy for skills you only use occasionally.
On the Xbox you can move the camera round pretty much any time with the right stick, but the only distance choice is standard or (by holding the left trigger down) an almost over the shoulder view.
The upcoming add-on FoV will be released separately on PC, but will only be available on the Xbox as part of DKS (remastered D2:ED + FoV, to be released on PC and Xbox). If you wish to play on the Xbox, or are not in a great hurry to play on PC, you might want to hold off until mid October, for DKS's release.

On the PC you can remap the controls anyway you like; any key on the keyboard or any mouse button can be set to perform the command of your choice.

Wow thanks for all the replies, nice to see the community here is still so helpful and friendly Well I tried remapping, but I still dont really like the controls, I hate WASD, never liked it, It just feels really cramped to me. Sounds like I should wait for the remastered edition on 360, oe maybe pick up a 360 controller with a lead, for PC use. Thanks again guys

Well, in the end, I went for the best of both worlds, I got the PC version and a second hand 360 wired controller, October is too long to wait, as I really loved the demo, the humour, the gravestones etc. Any tips on assigning skills etc to a gamepad would be great, there is nothing in the manual and a google search for Divinity 360 controls was no use. Thanks again all EDIT : According to D2 wiki there is gamepad support, but I cant see it, I can map most buttons to 360 gamepad, but any suggestions as to what skills etc. to map to Face Buttons or D PAD would be a great help. Thank you
