According to Google, this is generally related to 16 bit programs running under 32 or 64 bit versions of Windows with a 64 bit CPU. A problem or corrupt 32 bit program can be at fault, as can a virus or trojan. One report out of a handful I checked said anything run from a CD/DVD gave this error.
In this case are they getting the error trying to install or play the game? They could try the
manual install procedure (written for the CD release, but should be usable for the DVD release, as well, unless you rearranged a bunch of stuff).
