On the Interplay (IP/BIS) board, I put up a post designed to plug DD and give it a bit more of the audience I think it deserves:

http://forums.interplay.com/viewtopic.php?t=16645

Someone asked if there is a demo. Is there a demo?

There was one, yes - but please, don't ask me if still available.

The demo is still available, still working. I played it just a few days ago, it sold me on buying . You can play a good bit of the game with the demo, but only as a male warrior.

Thanks for the address. I noticed that a couple of people on another board mentioned trying the demo and feeling that it didn't represent the game well. Any opinions here?

@Tiffin

Note, the Demo is a very smal part of the Game.

Imo, the demo doesn't give ye the right idea about the game - it doesn't show off the huge size of the world nor do ye get much of a clue of the big story line and the amount of sidequests and the freedom to do what ye wanna do and when ye wanna do it
Some small details (like birds for example) aren't included in the demo either

At the other hand, ye'll see a lot of combat in the demo, and altho there is more story in the full game than there is in the demo, there will also be a huge lot of fighting - Whether ye like the combat or not will make a difference me thinks

Yes, true. The demo doesn't really represent the retail version anymore because of the reasons Kejero mentions. And also: this demo was released in May last year, so almost a year ago. Since then many bugs got solved and many improvements did happen. You may of course still play the demo, but I just wanted to stress this.
Hope this helps you.

And thank you, Tiffin, to mention at the Interplay forums.
