I have not tried an intelligence based warrior, but I can not see how adding some mage skills wouldn't make it more effective than a pure warrior (at least after the better spells become available). Since there are weapons that have part or most of their damage magic based, you don't really have to compromise on stats anywhere, since intelligence would be the primary stat for melee or magic attacks. You might need to balance vitality and spirit more than a pure warrior (but then you wouldn't need as much mana either), but with magic for ranged attacks (or a magic bow) you would not need as much dexterity. Strength helps with regeneration, but between the healing spell, regeneration skill and jewelry auras, you shouldn't need strength just for regeneration.
