I just started playing and have enough skills now that they cannot all be quick mapped. I am playing with a XBOX 360. How do you change from ranged weapon to melee weapon if it is not quick mappeded? How do you shoot poison arrows if it is not quick mapped. I go into pause mode and then pick the skill but when I come back out of pause mode nothing happens. Do I need to quick map it while in pause??

When you use a melee or range attack/skill, your character will automatically switch to the appropriate weapon, if required. Rush Attack will switch to your melee weapon(s) if you are holding a bow, etc.

Apparently you can not use skills that require a target when paused. I just tried it, and Rush Attack and Poison Arrow do not work, even if there is a target highlighted. Selecting a skill that doesn't need a target (Healing, Whirlwind, summon creature...) will un-pause and trigger that skill, the same as using a potion. Do you have any skills mapped that don't need a target, which you can re-map to Poison Arrow?

FWIW, playing a warrior I assigned X melee attack, A range attack, Y Rush Attack, B Whirlwind, left Dragon Stone, right Dragon Morph stone (both after getting the battle tower), up Heal (level 1 comes in handy) and down summon creature (after getting it).
For potions, I generally just paused (or had the low hit point auto-pause kick in) and selected one from the menu there.

If it's any consolation, you've done that to me a couple times, as well.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was using X for melee Y for fireball (came with being a mage) A for whirlwind and B for bow or poisen arrow and noticed if I could not easily switch to a bow for a regular ranged attack if B had poison arrow or I could not switch to a poison arrow if I had a bow in B. I will play around with it and remap. I am using gamefly and don't have a manual. but I think there is one I can download which will answer a lot of my question. I decided to put a skill point in each of the ones you get free with warrior, mage, and ranger. That's three and there are only four buttons so I had to shoose between a regular ranged attack or a regular melee attack.

You can use the 4 directions on the D-pad, as well. They require a bit more precision, so I'd try to keep frequently used combat skills on the buttons (with the D-pad a couple times I was careless and hit the dragon morph stone when I meant to heal, or summoned my creature when I wanted to use the dragon stone).

Do you really need all those skills?

Thats a question I would ask myself, its ok on PC where you can hotkey stuff easily, but with a 360 controller you need to be a bit more pragmatic I think.

That's great I did not know I could use the D-pad. Thanks for the info. I should have figured that out.
