What's to justify?

ED Original gamers have to basically BUY Flames of Vengeance expansion to get the DKS Upgrade Patch - which is basically to turn ED Original into ED Remastered. FOV will likely cost $30-40 USD, I'd guess - like most expansion packs. Most gamers probably already spent some fair amount of money on ED Original and just need the FOV expansion to get that patch to complete their experience and turn their game into The Dragon Knight Saga. Most likely, ED Original gamers probably already spent at least $20 retail on ED Original or more ($19.99 is currently right now what ED Original now costs on Amazon - cheapest I've seen that game here in The States). I'm sure there's plenty of ED Original gamers who spent already $40-50 on that game alone.

ED Original gamers are STILL left out of the picture here, when it comes to ED Remastered. They don't even get a upgrade to turn ED Original into Remastered - whether that upgrade is FREE or sold as DLC. Hell, a ED Original -> ED Remastered upgrade isn't even being sold as DLC, for those who have no interest in FOV.

ED Original owners have to buy FOV or just flat-out buy DKS (ED Remastered + FOV) to complete the DKS - or they are out of luck. FOV will likely go for $30-40 USD upon release, I'd guess. Do the math - that's probably AT LEAST $50 gamers will spend or have spent on getting ED Original + FOV. When Divinty 2: Dragon Knight Saga Edition comes out, I bet it'll retail for around what most new game releases go for - $50-60 USD.

I'd betting most gamers who liked Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, they'd probably buy Flames of Vengeance just for the new FOV content. Tossing in that ED+FOV -> DKS patch sweetens the deal, making there a good reason for gamers to even think about buying FOV Expansion. Sure, the upgrade to DKS download might be huge in size and quite extensive - but, it'll make due for now, for those who got fast Internet connections and are willing to take on the long download times and long install times.

If there was no plans for a ED+FOV patch, there'd probably be no reason for ED Original owners to even think to buy the FOV expansion at all. They might as well just buy DKS straight-up to get EVERYTHING - whether they do it upon its initial release or sometime later (likely when there's a price-drop or good sale price going on somewhere).

Also, keep in mind - The Witcher owners DID get a free upgrade to Witcher: Enhanced, when Witcher: Enhanced came out. It was one HUGE-as-sin patch when it came out, I might add, too. That's a good way to do business, if you ask me. I'm sure some owners of Witcher: Original probably bought Witcher: Enhanced, so they just install the entire Witcher: Enhanced Edition in one shot.
