Hallo,

I completed the game once, except the occasional crash without problem. Since I did not do all the side quests, I decided to do a second play through. The problem I now encounter is the following: Once I enter Verdistis the Save-Button (in the options menu) is grayed out. After a few minutes an error message pops up stating that some event did not finish properly and I should reload the last savegame. So I did, but same thing after returning to Verdistis. I did some other quests and gave it a third try, same thing. I'd like to know if this can be fixed somehow and what may trigger this problem. I'm not really in the mood to start all over again, just to encounter the problem a second time.

Thanks in advance.

Have you been to Verdistis before in that game? A similar problem happened to someone with the Dark Forest, due to files being included in the save folder prematurely.

Why cant i save in Dark Forest or go back ?

Check your save folder, and delete the 5 files with an extension of .x1 or .1 (see the above topic).
Each save is a separate subfolder in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames' folder in the disk version of the game; the download version does not have the 'run' subfolder.
Under Vista/7, depending on how the user accounts are set up, if you install the game to the default Program Files path, Windows can create separate savegame folders for each user, and then map that folder to the game's savegame folder (so it will just see the saves for the relevant user).

C:\Users\ %account name% \AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames

If you have been to Verdistis before in that game, it is possible a file associated with Verdistis became corrupt somehow. In a new save (don't want to make your most recent save worse if this isn't the problem), try deleting the world.x1 file and load the save. The game will replace the world file with the default version, which may eliminate the problem, though quest opened locations would be re-sealed and anything left directly on the ground would disappear (there are workarounds for both of these).

Game crash upon going to Verdistis

Game crashes when I try to return to Verdistis

Hopefully you have the first, and much easier to fix problem...

Thanks a lot the thing with deleting the x1 and 1 files did the job.

I had the same kind of message and also my Save button was grayed out WHEN I go in the underground for rescue the lady (Quest : Kidnapped by a zombie ) ... But I play further and after awhile the Save button comes back to work ... I make for being sure and extra savegame, but so far I'm now playing I haven't this problem anymore, also going in Verdistis and no problem.
(I did NOT reload, just make a seperate savegame to be sure not to loose a whole day playing IF the savegame is corrupted!)

Actually, saving is disabled deliberately when you enter the underground section of the graveyard for the rescue, until you reach the second cutscene at the end of that (small) area.
