Hello,

While I immensely enjoyed Divine Divinity and played it like a mad man for a long time, I opted to not get Divinity II until it came on sale someplace. Thankfully, it is on this weekends deals at Impulse for only $15.00 so I picked it up.

It's currently downloading as I type so I've been reading the forums to get a grasp for what I need to look out for, what I should be doing etc. A couple quesitons have popped up in my mind that maybe some of the other members here could answer...

1. [color:#FFFF99]I'm wondering if there have been any mods that buff the characters a bit to make up for the easiest level being overly difficult?
Is Divinity II moddable at all and if so, is there a central repository of mods for the game, and if so, are there any recommendations on what mods would be good to get to make the game more enjoyable, balanced etc?

2. I found a thread that I now can't find again that said that there was a user created mod or patch that updates the textures in the game and is about 1GB in size. Where would I find this mod, and does it really help and worthwhile to download another 1GB of data?

3.I've read some people lament over how much more difficult it is to play a ranged character in Divinity II. Is this really the case? What would be the best character class (even though I've read it's a classless system) be for a newplayer to Divinity II?

4. Specifically, are there any areas of the game that I need to avoid to prevent any game stopping bugs?

5. Lastly, when Divinity II FOV comes out, will there be a patch to Divinity II ED that balances and or makes the game better?

6. Oh hell, one more. Does anybody know if the digital versions of the game (Impulse specifically) is already patched to the latest version, how do I tell in the game what version I have?

7. Is there anyway to make the reticule larger so that it's easier to aim? I'd really like to play a ranged character but what I'm finding is that trying to get that reticule to aim over the enemy is a nightmare, it's very fidgity for me.

Thanks,[/color]

There are no mods for the game, other than that 1GB third party texture mod. I played the Xbox version, but based on the first couple before and after screenshots on the website (in different resolutions, for some strange reason) I don't see that it makes much of an improvement.

There is a trainer a couple people have mentioned using to boost their stats and level, which should come up in a Google search.

The upcoming patch, expected around the release of FoV/DKS, is going to adjust the level dependence of combat, among other things. Once you get the hang of combat, though, the easy difficulty setting shouldn't be too hard.

I played a strength based duel wielding warrior, who sometimes started combat early to mid game with a bow, but didn't invest in any ranger skills. When DKS is released I'm planning on starting a ranger character.

So: warrior, mage or archer?

Character Optimization

Save periodically, and/or before entering new areas, starting / completing quests, etc, and you will be able to recover more easily if you do happen to run into any bugs (or just entering areas too early for your level or wanting to try doing something a different way, etc).
A couple people have run into a problem when repeatedly quicksaving/loading indoors or underground (which could be rare or happen frequently, depending on the system), but there are not any common bugs that can be prevented by avoiding certain areas, or anything like that.

In general you should explore a particular area first and complete side quests before doing the main plot quests (which should be obvious).

The download version should already be updated, but I don't know where you would check for the version number.

I have not tried the PC version of the game, but on the Xbox the right stick (mainly used to control the camera) can be used to cycle through the opponents in range by moving it moderately quickly left or right when there are more than one opponent in range. I never tried using the crosshairs to manually select targets during combat.

can't answer all, but i'll number them

3: I found it easiest to start with magic.. especially the Fire Ball spell. Since it's high damage and area of effect, it'll seriously hurt groups of enemies even before you actually "start" the fight.

4: I do know about one area, with the three sleeping people. Apparently, they are bugged in a way that you get stuck after a dialog with one of them. (quicksave before speaking to any of them, if you have the bug, quit the game (Exit to Windows) restart game and load the quicksave until it doesn't get stuck anymore. At least, that's what i did)

6: You can view your current version in the main menu if i'm not mistaken.

7: Unfortunately, i have not found a way to increase the crosshair either, but you can of-course bind a key to "target lock", and press it when you have an enemy targeted. This will keep the enemy targeted until it dies. (even if you turn your back to it to run away, screaming "enemies!" in a high pitch voice to alert a nearby Hunter or Brute.. ohh wait, wrong game)

Thank you both. Very useful information.

I could not find side by side images of before the user created textures and with theuser textures so I guess I'll skip it for now. Plus I don't like that the anti virus software consider the texture pack a trojan even though they say it's not. I don't care to have to rebuild my computer system again this year due to virus or malware so I leave it alone for now.

I did not know there was a way to lock onto targets and or cycle through targets, that will help tremendously as trying to target things in Divinity II so far this morning has been almost a hair pulling event.

I usually play mages/wizards in RPG games so I think I will try that then. The question I have is this...

Are there certain skills that are only given if you take that path? For example, if I take warrior, can I still take fireball or magic missles?, I'm wondering if there are some skills in each class that are verboten to take unless you originally take that class?

Thank you,

Your initial choice of class doesn't make much difference after you've gone up a few levels, as you can develop your stats and skills however you wish. There are no class restrictions on skills, though if you play a strength based warrior and neglect intelligence and spirit you may not have enough mana for some of the more powerful mage skills (Thousand Strikes uses a fair bit of mana, as well). There are plenty of magic based weapons around (which get a bonus from intelligence), so as a mage you should not have any problems using any of the melee skills, assuming your melee resistance and hit points are high enough.

False positives from anti-virus programs are not that uncommon, and there are online services that will run uploaded files through multiple programs to double check (though 1GB would be a tad impractical even if there wasn't a file size limit).
