Gave Griska a really excellent breast plate dragon armor, and Dragon heart gem, and got back a much weaker Dragonheart breastplate??!? AND, Griska now has my old Dragon armor (and the Dragon heart) for sale.
Does Dragon heart armor have some "extra" goodness not listed in the stats for it??
I also have the shield and the gloves, but Griska doesn't seem to recognize these.
wtf???

Stats are random, so while the breastplate forged with the dragon heart gem is potentially better, it is not guaranteed to be so. Presumably that is why you have the option to buy back the original, if you wish. There is no value to the dragon heart armour over and above what is listed in the stats, except to show the dwarven king (to get the helm) and to wear once as part of the full set (to complete the associated quest).
If you quicksave after getting the upgraded armour, you can check the stats and then quickload to see if you can get something better. Save the game after finding good candidates, if you want to keep reloading (for objects placed directly in your inventory, you need to move them in order to set their stats; just identifying them is not enough).
Grisha can not upgrade any other armour, just the breastplate.
FWIW, this is what I got, reloading for both:
Breastplate Of The Dragon
Durability 30 Charm Quality 1 Armour 390 6 Strength 6 Intelligence 60 Vitality 100 Magic 15 Resistance to Lightning 15 Resistance to Poison 2 Hearing Heaven's gift +1
Breastplate Of The Dragonheart
Durability 12 Charm Quality 3 Armour 440 2 Defense 100 Vitality 60 Magic 15 Resistance to Fire 40 Resistance to Lightning 15 Resistance to Spirit 4 Hearing Survivors Instinct +1

I would have expected the Dragon Heart armor to start with the stats of the plain Dragon armor, and add some random "goodness". Not logical to go with a random re-generate!

Yeah, a lttle bit sad ... so No need (and 'fever') for doing the quest to have the Breastplate of the Dragonheart ...
I see what I going to do with that if I'm at that point ... IF the Breastplate of the Dragon fits me well and I like the "bonus" it gives me I hold it.

Nice stats, especially the armor #. the Durability of 12 can be a problem though, especially for weapons: my "Sword of the Gods" is DUR 12, and I am always needing to Repair it! btw: what exactly is benefit of "+4 HEARING" ?? + X SIGHT"?? another question: my sword has "FROST(4)" does that mean 4 damage from Frost, or it casts FROST, at a level 4 skill??

I didn't notice needing to repair the dragonheart armour more frequently than other breastplates, despite the low durability. As you say, that can be a problem with weapons, though. Hearing bonuses let you hear opponents from farther away, and can at least give you a bit of advanced warning of what opponents are ahead. I found hearing in general to be occasionally useful, but wouldn't necessarily pick a hearing bonus over other options if given a choice. Sight bonuses (either from equipment or the Elven Sight / Ranger Sight skills) determine how much fog of war you clear as you explore. I boosted Elven Sight (which is much more effective than Ranger Sight) until my sight range got up to about the screen size and then started avoiding equipment with sight bonuses (so I could use the fog of war to keep track of where I had explored). sights and weapon rangeMost spells that can be found on weapons are similar to the corresponding spells you can learn. Frost(4) is similar to level 4 of the Freeze spell, with the notable exception that Frost on a weapon ignores the target's resistance, so always works.

Raze, I figured that FROST (4) meant level: that sword was TOO powerful - at the end game I was killing monsters with 2 or 3 hits, all the time, except for the occasional 1 hit kill!! When I added Poison to blade, most died with 2 hits. End dungeon was a stroll in the park.
I rarely had to repair armor, mainly cause I killed everything before they could injure me, but armor rarely got damaged, while sword needed constant attention.
Thanks for all your help through this game!!
I'm thinking of trying Beyond Divinity, but impression I get from forums is that it is not as good as DD. Plus, Fallout New Vegas is out next week

I tried a Frost sword briefly, but found it made fights too easy, so avoided weapons with that bonus. Some people playing mages find a Frost weapon great as a backup if opponents get too close or they run out of mana at a bad time (or a couple places in the game where magic is blocked). DD does tend to get easier as it progresses. Even without Frost, the imps (etc) in the wastelands only lasted 2 or sometimes 3 hits for me. I bought lots of charms intending to use them later when I had good equipment I would be keeping for awhile, but by that time I didn't need any extra help (gold is easy to come by, though, so I kept buying charms). I compared BD and DD in the topic Beyond Divinity available for download!.

If you have enough skillpoints left, put 1 point in Repair and you haven't any problems when a weapon/armor get stuck
