Any word on a discount for people who bought ED via retail boxes?

Dunno about that, but steam offers 33% off for those who have Divinity 2: Ego Draconis on steam.

Yeah, I'd be cool w/ that...

...Even though I'm NOT cool w/ Steamworks DRM + additional Securom Internet DRM.
How redundant.

Yeah, it would be nice if they made considerations for owners of ED who want the remastered version and the expansion. I just went ahead and bought DKS, even though I had bought ED. I know I paid extra, but I really think it was worth it. smile

A general trade-in or rebate program for games would probably require too much cooperation between retailers and publishers to work. Developers don't get the bigest cut of the profits, so if they had to cover the full discount they could end up getting nothing.
There is no upgrade / loyalty system for movies, and many more of them come out with special / remastered / anniversary editions, etc, after the original release.

I suppose you can always sell it on eBay, however, the SecuROM activation limit definitely makes buyers a bit uneasy....especially if it's been used. All you can really hope for is that your good rating and reputation, including being up front about how the activation works and providing a great return policy, will make it somewhat profitable

The retail versions of D2:ED did not have any activation limits, just a disk check.
