When I click play, it opens the "Preparing to Launch" window, then just closes.

It's a bit hard to see what went wrong here - my first guess would be that the steam install failed for some reason. Could perhaps try to reinstall it ? If that doesn't work, you're best of contacting support@larian.com - we'll then try verifying the files that are installed on your machine versus the files that should be there. A dxdiag would also be helpful.

im having the same problem, no error messages no nothing,
Had the same issue with Gothic 4 but i figued it was just that game, but i bought this and installed fine, but nothing ever starts.
I installed the physx drivers that came with the game and just updated them to newest version.

My directX is fully updated and so is my 2 amd 5770 HD cards
running Windows 7 64 bit 8 GB memory amd processor quad core.

k i updated my GFX card to newest drivers, updated physx with online version, not version that shipped with game, and it worked for me.

Have you tried semi-random stuff like lowering your desktop resolution, disabling SLI/Crossfire, etc?

Try running the game as administrator, and in the compatibility options disable desktop composition.

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to start the game?

When bought on Steam, they do not give a Serial Number, where can i find mine?
I can't play because i can not even start the game past this point..
