I'm a bit on the fence when it comes to the weapons that add +40/50/etc ... on the one hand you deal massive damage, but then again, i tend to die very fast too. That sort of makes the combat extremly brutal and fast paced, which is not entirely a bad thing.
Also, note that many weapons have enchantemnt slots that allow you defacto to also make them +40/XX dmg.
