... less intrusive applications like Steamworks You are refering to the Steamworks that requires Steam to be installed right? Then it seems we have a diffrent idea about what counts as intrusive. Impulse::Reactor would be a better example. Steam is a great service that has yet to fail me, thus I don't find Steamworks to be intrusive at all. I've had every game on there since a little bit after Half-Life 2's launch, and I've never had a single problem with any of the DRM that's been offered.
