I'm playing mainly a warrior, but I have a few points in some mage skills for AE attacks like Fire Wall. I have found that for massed groups of NPC's, warrior is really challenging, and add a few ranged enemies to the mix, you are going down fast. I find, for example, in the fortresses, I need to have a ranger pet, and whip out my bow, even though I have exactly zero skills in the ranger tree. Otherwise, I just get overwhelmed.
