I just bought the game and found the patch. Characters/items were transparent. I tried changing graphical settings to no avail. I deleted the patch file and replaced the exe file with the one from the cd. Graphic problems are gone. I tried looking in the graphic file and it is correctly set to the resolution of my monitor/system.
Keep in mind that I just updated my graphic drivers today.

Audigy Gamer with up to date drivers
All windows updates and bios updates.
Is this a known issue? Is the patch important enough to wait for a workaround?
I tried patching it again to fool around and now there are just all sorts of graphic artifacts.
