The game does not have strict classes, and thus it does not have specialized skills. If you wanted to play a mage, there is no skill tree for fire, ice, etc. Spell are more generic and you won't find multiple levels of spells, for instance: fireball, instant fireball, and conflagration. But if you give this game a chance, you'll find more an enough entertaining single player action to keep you entertained for weeks, if not months.
And like Stabbey said, there are no traditional mage weapons. The stereotypical mage type character does exist in the game as an NPC, but you play the title character and not a generic class hero.
Consequently the look of your character is defined by the look you choose, male or female, hair, and facial features. Your armor is not classed and has a relatively consistent look regardless of your specialization.
You can play the more traditional roles of a mage, warrior, (dark) priest, or ranger by allocation of skills and stats for your character and stats on your armor, jewelry and weapons. You may find it more exciting to play a hybrid role and spec your character to match your play style.
