I play risen/minecraft on the home PC with a gamepad: rumblepad2(couch patato-style)
It's also not supported, but the gamepad has a program to assign keyboard-keys to gamepad-buttons or sticks. If you have an other brand of gamepad I'm sure there are some free-ware programs like this.
I just set the right stick to mousemove and the mouse-buttons to gamepad-buttons and WASD to left stick and it works fine.
Most of the time you need a bit of mouse sensitivity-tweaking in the game.
