I'd recommend that you don't spend all your ability points at once - you should decide how you want to play the game first. Ability points can't be re-allocated later in the game (unlike almost everything else about your character, including your skills, and even your sex and apperance).
But otherwise, you should just have fun! The game isn't very hard, so you should just reduce the dificulty level if you have any problems
