One of the things I tend to do before purchasing from Steam is to determine if they get timely updates to a given game. (They do not always).

I see the Steam version of DNS has some Steam specific content (3 armor sets). Will the Steam version of DNS remain up to date with all current and future patches to the game? Or is the Steam version handled as a separate branch of development?

A related question: I see the sticky post that "Patch 2" has been released. Will Steam be getting this patch, and if so, has it been submitted to Valve for a pending update?

TIA

[EDIT: Unrelated to the above, I'm considering DLing the demo of DKS for PC. Is the demo version up-to-date, e.g., are Patch 2 fixes put in? If not, can anyone offer a list of the main differences between the demo and the full release version available from either Steam or Gamersgate? I'm in the US/NA region, if that matters.]

Patch 2 for Steam is going through QA at the publisher's, and then they'll send it to Steam for submission. We do keep Steam up to date, but there may be a bit of a waiting period.

I thought patch 2 for steam was already out? On Christmas Eve, my version updated itself from 1.4.9.65 (Patch 1) to 1.4.9.70.

I am being told over on the Steam forums it has been released. Since I cannot find actual version numbers associated with the Patch 2 release notes on the Larian site, I cannot tell...

You can check it yourself - open the Steam and select News -> Product Updates. Find any update since dec7 (last D2 update).

If you want to be sure so badly, upload your divinity ii - dragon knight saga content.ncf from steamapps/ folder, I'll tell you if it's updated.

Steam update news is not updated for every patch for every game. For example, Plants & Zombies had several recent updates - but those updates didn't have corresponding patch notes. This occurs often enough that I felt my original post was justified.

A different type of example of why I posted was with a few other types of update issues.

Where the most current patch isn't available on Steam for many months. Example: Sword of the Stars' last two patches were 3 and 5 months behind on Steam.

As well there are examples where a Steam version of a game doesn't really ever sync up with the non-Steam version. Example: Hearts of Iron III was both months behind on patching for a while and then when it did get patched on Steam, the checksum (which the game uses to sync multiplayer) wasn't the same on Steam as it was on non-Steam versions.

So I have to ask these questions. Hope you understand.

I don't mind a few days or week delays too much. I do mind not having the current game, especially for new content or bug fixes.

I agree that Larian really should put version numbers on their patch release notes, so we can be sure.

Version 1.4.9.65 was definitely patch 1 - I immeditately noticed the difference in some of my enchantments.

The problem with patch 2 was that it didn't change anything in the gameplay (at leat not that they announced), it was just a fix for some graphics issues and bugs that seemed to result from patch 1. I never had any issues with any version, so I can't tell if they were fixed.

Either way, there was a second steam patch to version 1.4.9.70 - but whether this is actually "patch 2" or just a fix for the Steam version of Patch 1 is something Larian will have to advise.

I confirm hereby that Patch 2 is out on steam, the version number 1.4.9.70 corresponds with patch 2.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Okay, can someone upload latest Divinity2.EXE from Steam version? It appears that I still have outdated one.

Thanks for clearing that up Ava! And good work on getting the steam version of the patch out so quickly.

If you've got a problem with Steam updating, then you should probably contact Steam technical support. I think that updating just the .EXE might be dangerous - there's probably other updated files in the patch that are also needed.

I did ultimately purchase the game, and would ask if a Larian post could be made each patch (perhaps as part of the patch notes) so that the version number of the game is associated with the patch number. As we see here, "Patch 2" doesn't mean much when the player has just an .exe build or version number to go by.

Anyway, things are going swimmingly, except for one crash just now while saving. I'm going to restart the game anyway so I'm not too bothered by this. So far, the only real consistent problem is the complete failure to apply anti-aliasing using in-game settings. I've not yet tried customizing a catalyst profile for this game, as I'm trying to rule out any new game stability problems as being driver options related. But I can't believe the number of current games that can't do anti-aliasing options these days. It's like the current generation of game engines or console+PC platform APIs assume a GPU on a PC can't handle AA.
