I've never had many problems w/ Steam itself - knock on wood. I've bought plenty of games from them, over the years - and it'll probably only continue, too.
Only time I really had trouble once w/ Steam itself was it wouldn't load my Games List for like over 10 mins. I renamed BLOB file to something else; restarted Steam; and it re-created my BLOB file and fixed the problem itself.
There's really two ways to look at games w/ Steam-DRM + additional DRM:
1. Steam is enough DRM, so the additional DRM is unnecessary OR
2. Steam shouldn't be forced to run games that have other DRM or clients(Securom, Tages, G4WL, etc).
Sure, I've dealt w/ Steam + additional DRM many times before for my game purchases from Steam, when they weren't that expensive of a buy, during them Steam sales - see GTA4, POP: The Forgotten Sands, or Risen.
I'm still sitting on the fence on buying DKS from Steam currently. If they removed the Securom DRM-check from Steam version right now, I'd jump instantly. Right now, I'm a little hesitant. Who knows, I still might pull the punch and order it from Steam. Then again, maybe not. I don't know.
*shrug*
Plus, I've already got tons of games to get around to, as is...
