I'm pretty sure if you were facing archers in real life you'd not be best pleased either. :P
Just make sure you're increasing your ranged and magic defenses, not just melee.

1) it is game not real life.
2) I have over 1500 damage + >60% defence and archers are still most dangerous enemy.
3) maybe they use nukes?
