I'd definitely love to parry and block and the melee is rather annoying, where there is no flow of animations. Instead you either attack and get hit or you dodge and not attack. But later in the game, with skills the annoyance becomes less of a factor, and I become numb to the annoyance. But the game is so epic, that the annoyances of melee combat fade in comparison to the overall fun. Plus it's quite wild and fun to be attacked by many simultaneously.
In contrast to what I said, combat in Divinity wasn't OMGSUPARFANTASTIC GOTY material. It's melee system definitely was able to keep me entertained compared to Oblivion/ Beth's Fallout, where melee combat basically devolved to back pedal + mouse spam-and-maybe-a-bit-of-stimpak-spamming-because enemies-won't-stop-trying-to-shoot-my-head-off-with-peashooters.
Yeah, I hated that too. In DKS Melee became much more fun when I could kill them quickly. That sort of covered over the shortcomings. Seriously though, Mount & Blade has the best system.
