Hi Forum,

I'm a newbie at RP Games and right now I'm at the very beginning of the game and I got up to the part where I meet the dying dragon knight and am supposed to now get to Lord Lovis' Tower, etc.

Okay, but I'm not strong enough yet to get past the skeleton warriors (although I did kill the ogre, haha) and I don't want to use any cheats and so before I attempt to storm the tower I want to find other towns where I can get more quests and advance in levels and get better armor and weapons and so on.

So are there any more towns like Broken Valley and/or "safe havens" where I can get to for some "R and R" without having to fight my way through every nook and cranny along the way?

Thanks in advance.

There are no more towns in Broken Valley (there is a bandit camp that you can do a couple quests in, if you do so before you report back the location), but there are easier areas than around Lovis' tower. Also, there is no rush to get to the tower, despite Talana's nagging.

In D2:ED at level 7 I was able to use a bow to take out the level 8 skeletons at the main (locked) gate of the tower (switching to melee when they got close), with several strategic retreats to heal behind the large tree down hill. As long as you get one or two of them each attack, the next approach will be easier. After that I continued south east to clear the level 6/7 goblins, and the first couple level 9 bandits.
The bandits were too tough in large groups, so I went west of the place you meet the dragon knight, and up the northern path through the mountains (and level 6/7 goblins). Farther west I cleared partly towards the passage to Maxos temple (at level 8 or 9 I could take out the level 11 black ring members one or two at a time), then decided to leave that area and clear out the derelict tunnel (the two goblin entrances already cleared above ground). After that I finished off the skeletons around Lovis's tower. I kept exploring, though, and did a fair bit before actually entering the tower.

Thanks Raze, That helps.
And while I have your attention <grin>, can you tell me what I do about weapons and armor that have empty 'charm slots'? I do have a couple of charms in my inventory but I can't figure out how to put them in the 'slots'

To permanently add a charm:
With the Xbox version, at least in D2:ED, just select a piece of equipment with one or more empty charm slots in the inventory and hit A; a menu will come up allowing you to permanently charm the item with any of the charms you have collected. In the equipment menu you can hit Y to add charms to equipped items (the only way to charm a bow in D2:ED).
On the PC right click a piece of equipment with an empty charm slot.

The content of a merchant's inventory, mineral veins, unlocked chests, etc are set when you get close enough and run the crosshairs over them. If you save before doing so you can reload repeatedly to try to get something good (with a merchant, their inventory will be reset the next time you level). I wouldn't waste too much time with this, though, unless you really need to upgrade something, or are at a chest (or quest reward, boss type opponent, etc) that always gives something decent quality (and you want to make sure you get something that suits your character) or at a malachite vein to make sure you get some gems (1 or 2 are relatively easy to get, 3 can be gotten with a bit of patience or luck, and 4 are possible but quite rare).
