I read that the rewards are better if you leave side quests until later does so is it best just to do the main quests then come back later for the side quests or do you need to do some side quests to be high enough level to do the main quests?
I found that it was best to kill all the enemies you could before doing sidequests. EXP diminishes for enemy kills as you level but not for sidequests. Also, I would delay the main quests as well. Kill all enemies you can before doing quests.
Just make sure you do all Broken Valley and Sentinel Island before you beat Laiken because those go away after
