I've already brought this subject up on a current topic (Dragon Mechanic), where I got the kind advice to post it on its own. So I'll do that. This is what I said in the original letter:

"I have not acquired my dragonshifting ability yet. But in the dream-episode when I was transformed by Talana, I was annoyed to find that the Y-axis in the flight controls could not be inverted. I could click the box to invert it, but the actual gaming control didn't change. So I dived when I wanted to climb, and climbed when I wanted to dive... not too dignified for a Master of the Skies."

One reason why I didn't post this on its own to begin with was a nagging suspicion that the fault lay with me and not with the game mechanics; I have, after all, never been a dragon before. But now I'm not so sure.* Is this a bug of some sort? (If so, it is a first - this game has so far been blessedly bug-free!)

*About the fault part. I'm still fairly sure about the dragon part.

At least in the Xbox version of D2:ED there are two options to check off ('invert Y axis' and 'invert Y axis in dragon form') in order to do what you want.

Errrm... I do have the Xbox version. I guess I must have checked the wrong box.

Which takes me back to my 'nagging suspicion'. Boy, do I feel sheepish.

shame

I have an update on this.

I double-checked my settings and found that
a) yes, there ARE two boxes for inverting the Y-axis; one for normal play and one for the dragon form, and
b) I HAD inverted the Y-axis for the dragon form.

As I remember it, this did not in fact change the actual gameplay. So either I rembember incorrectly, or there may in fact be a problem.

I'll wait and see what happens when I actually get my dragonshifting ability. I figure that if there had been a real problem with this, chances are that someone would have remarked upon it long before this.

I needed to check off both boxes in order to invert the dragon form flight.

Doesn't that invert the Y-axis when I'm in human form as well?

Yes, it does.

Well, it will be a bother to keep changing the settings every time I shapeshift. I'll have to try out the dragon form and see if I can get used to flying without an inverted Y-axis... but it's good to know that there is an alternative!
