Well, Peter Molyneux is a gaming icon in and out of the industry. And it should be obvious why his games get so much exposure-- if you've been around since near the beginnings it affords you respect and consequently the connections he's made are easy ins. But that's just business and its no different in any industry.
As for Fable itself... when it was published it was one of the first examples of an open ended sandbox game. Additionally the game featured storytelling driven by player decisions, consequences, and moral implications. All elements that are now expected in many RPG titles. In fact, its one of requested features for Divinity from the suggestions thread. While the game itself isn't perfect, pioneering an industry first gets the attention of media and gamers alike.
Its sad quality titles don't get much recognition, but if you don't have "shock" value of any kind its difficult to create a memorable first impression.
